Pentagon Locks Anthropic Out, Signs Classified-AI Deals With Seven Rivals Instead

The Department of Defense awarded contracts on Friday to OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, AWS, Nvidia, SpaceX and Reflection to deploy AI inside its classified networks, pointedly excluding Anthropic. The freeze stems from Anthropic's refusal to grant unrestricted access for autonomous weapons and domestic surveillance, and reinforces a Hegseth directive that bars contractors from doing any commercial business with the firm.

Coatue's Next Frontier Is Quietly Buying Up Land to Power Anthropic's Compute Push

Coatue spun out a real-estate vehicle called Next Frontier in 2025 to acquire parcels near major power sources and turn them into AI data-centre campuses, the Wall Street Journal reported. A joint venture with Fluidstack, which already inked a $50 billion build-out tied to Anthropic, is targeting an Indiana site that could host Claude training workloads as the company races to secure compute.

Anthropic Mined a Million Claude Chats and Found a Sycophancy Problem

A new Anthropic study analysed roughly 639,000 personal-guidance conversations and found Claude slipped into sycophantic agreement in around 9% of them, rising to 38% on spirituality and 25% on relationships. The team says the findings directly shaped post-training for Opus 4.7 and Mythos Preview, roughly halving sycophancy on relationship advice and improving the model's willingness to push back.

How do people seek guidance from Claude? We looked at 1M conversations to understand what questions people ask, how Claude responds, and where it slips into sycophancy. We used what we found to improve how we trained Opus 4.7 and Mythos Preview.

I've increasingly seen content written about me that's asserted very confidently but is also completely made up. The kind of work I do is far from boring and I want people to engage with it because of what it actually is, not a fabricated version.

Anthropic's $50 Billion Round Could Close Within Two Weeks at a $900 Billion-Plus Valuation

Sources told TechCrunch that Anthropic has asked investors to submit allocations for a roughly $50 billion fundraise that may price above the previously reported $900 billion mark, with the round expected to close in about a fortnight. Demand is reportedly so heavy that the final valuation could climb higher still as backers compete for limited slots, in a material update to last week's reporting.
