Anthropic Buys the SDK Plumbing That Powers OpenAI, Google and Cloudflare

Anthropic announced on Monday it has acquired Stainless, the four-year-old startup whose AI-powered compiler generates production-ready SDKs from OpenAPI specs and builds MCP servers used by Claude, OpenAI, Google and Cloudflare. Anthropic plans to wind down Stainless's hosted SDK generator while folding the team into its platform org, framing the deal as a bet that agents are only as useful as the connectors they can reach.

TechCrunch: $300M Plus Price Tag Puts Anthropic in Charge of Rival AI Labs' SDK Pipeline

TechCrunch reports the Stainless deal is worth at least $300 million, a doubling of the New York company's last private valuation and a strategically loaded purchase given that OpenAI, Google, Replicate, Runway and Cloudflare all ship SDKs generated through Stainless. Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz were the startup's backers.

Bloomberg: Anthropic's Secondary-Market Crackdown Sends Pre-IPO Buyers Reeling

Bloomberg charts the fallout from Anthropic's decision to publicly void offerings from eight named brokers and ban purchases through special purpose vehicles, a notice that wiped value off tokenised Anthropic exposure and rocked private brokers including Hiive and Unicorns Exchange. The move underscores how aggressively Anthropic is policing access to its own shares as it negotiates a $30 billion round at a $900 billion valuation.

Hacker News Picks Apart the Stainless Deal and What It Means for MCP

The Hacker News thread on Anthropic's Stainless acquisition swings between admiration for the engineering work behind Stainless's SDK generator and unease about a single AI lab owning the toolchain that ships rival labs' client libraries. Commenters debate whether MCP server tooling should sit inside Anthropic at all, and what happens to OpenAI's Python SDK now that its generator's new owner is a direct competitor.

Claude Engineering Drops a Field Guide to Running Claude Code in Million-Line Monorepos

A fresh post on the Claude blog walks through how Claude Code is being deployed across multi-million-line monorepos, decades-old legacy systems and distributed microservices, with the company arguing the harness around the model, CLAUDE.md files, hooks, skills, plugins and MCP servers, matters more than the model itself. The piece pushes teams towards layered context and agentic search rather than monolithic embedding pipelines.
